Sirena Essays - Sirena, , Term Papers, Research Papers

Sirena Sirena is about affirmation or stand and forgiving. While the conversion is about resisting and killing what is living inside. Both poem tackled identity crisis but they differ on how the character respond to the situation. Gloc 9s Sirena is an artist attack on societys perception on homosexuality. It speaks through the point of view of a homosexual and describes himself as a mermaid where I realized form that point he already claimed as a homo from the start of the poem/song. The song narrates the characters hard knock life. From the identity crisis phase exhibited during childhood years to the physical and emotional abuse he received from taunting his homosexuality in the latter years of his life. From the lyrics, it can already be said that the song denounces abuse and discriminations on homosexuals Yet he still claims and stand what he is. But more than anything else, the song/poem attempts to discuss how homosexuals are like any other people, and states that they also equally important to the society. The Conversion is like a ghost story where the image of a girl in the metal drum helpless to defend and save continues to haunt the man. The persona of the boy is innocent but not nave to understand his uncle and fathers intentions that reflects to the older males standards. To make it short, the boy intendedly hide what he really wants to be to satisfy his father and uncles definition of a grown man; decent and robust. The author begins the poem with a straightforward style, describing that there is also an offense executed. The boy is dragged to the metal drum where he was dunked repeatedly. The father shouts Girl or Boy asking only for the acceptable answer as if it is already determined. The boy speaks to himself on the brutal onslaught and the girl inside him rapidly shrinks and a new man is emerge from the metal drum, reborn as a full blooded male. Both poem/song has a scene where a drum filled of water and where the father repeatedly dunks his son asking what a gender. Thats how Filipino tackle on that certain issue. To differ the song/poem, Sirenas character proclaim and acclaim what he really wants to be during the drum scene and waiting to be accepted even if it is in the late phase of his father. The Conversions character cannot claim it as the water curls down on his nose every dunk on the metal drum and just fulfilled his father and uncles wants. The girl inside him slowly died. Both poem/song has homosexuality issues, but the thing that really made it different from each other is how the family respond. One is happily accepted by his family by claiming it from the start, the other one is still haunted from the girl of the past inside him.
