Hr Management

I will investigate the present business enactment that associations are confronted with concerning enlistment, (HOC) embraces, taking into account how I can make proper suggestions to improve the procedure in general just as keeping the procedure consistent with the enactment. Explore work force necessities and attempt a Job investigation for a distinguished post. The significance of enrolling the correct gauge of individuals for an association is basic for some, reasons, diminishing staff turnover, hierarchical costs, spirit in existing workforce and the general increased the value of authoritative procedure and goals.Whilst I was examining which potential opening to use as the reason for finishing this task, I promptly thought of an opportunity inside the HER area of expertise that would be portrayed as business basic to the HOC, the position is HER Pensions Administrator. The Requirements of the HER Pensions Administrator The post is the main asset distributed to benefits organiza tion in the HOC, with an obligation regarding consistence with authoritative prerequisites, HEMP guidelines and for consistence with the necessities of the Pensions Regulator. It is an independent post, tit everyday duty regarding the organization of the annuity understandings for more than 1500 individuals, just as liaising with the nearby Government Pension Schemes which we have acquired. They are additionally answerable for giving first line backing to the Secretary of the Trustees, including everyday administration of scofflaws, speculation courses of action and contact with the Scheme Actuary and other expert counselors. The peashooter is answerable for preparing HOC Scheme joiners and leavers and is first purpose of contact for conspire individuals comparable to all ensign enquiries. They are likewise liable for guaranteeing that all Scheme benefits (ordinary, retirements, Ill wellbeing retirements, passing in administration and other early retirements) are determined precisely and paid in an auspicious way. Taking the discoveries from the Job examination and the data assembled by the various procedures utilized, I inferred that the reasons above clarify why this particular post is business basic to the association and that the post holder requires explicit specialized aptitudes and experience expected to satisfy the whole of the Job successfully. To research precisely what this post involves and to finish my Job investigation, I practiced a couple of various methods to get the data required; Interview †I set up a casual meeting with the post holder to catch a decent foundation of the Jobs anticipations, who the primary partners/clients are and how upsetting an occupation it is. This strategy was the most supportive when assembling my Job Description and Personal Specification, as I had the option to set up the fundamental squeeze focuses, just as the most significant necessities required for this specific post.Observation †I figured shadowing the post holder would be method of accomplishing the Job from a functional angle. I saw this as an especially advantageous strategy to acquire data I require for my Job examination, you truly get a vibe of the everyday undertakings included, the discussion's you have with clients/partner, the weights of the Job and how this post fits in with different divisions inside the organization.Diaries, Logs and Journals †This post requires an incredibly sorted out proactive individual, there are various ‘pinch' focuses that are basic to the post and low outline for instance of the kind of errands included. (If you don't mind allude to Appendix 1). Set of working responsibilities for HER Pensions Administrator and Personal Specification †Please allude to Appendix 2 For the Personal Specification I decided to utilize a notable framework known as ‘Rogers Seven Point Plan (1970)' just as Hack's abilities to layout what the perfect individual for the Job would be.Personal deter minations must be arranged and utilized cautiously. Specifically, guarantee that the fundamental or wanted skills don't prompt unlawful victimization potential candidates. Look at Employment enactment with respect to enrollment Evaluate current work enactment as it influences enlistment and determination of staff The Equality Act became possibly the most important factor on 1 October 2010, its principle point was to make the structure increasingly productive, more straightforward and progressively reliable at how managers can forestall discrimination. There have been late changes to the demonstration to make it substantially more smoothed out and to reinforce the law on balance generally. The Equality Act covers the accompanying gatherings of enactment * age * handicap * sex reassignment * race religion or conviction * sex * sexual direction * marriage and common association * pregnancy and maternity The rundown of gatherings above are presently known as the ‘Protected Characte ristics' I will currently picked a choice of the gatherings above and clarify how they sway the enlistment and choice in my organization.Disability â€Å"Disability in work terms alludes to physical or mental debilitation which has a significant and long haul unfavorable effect on an individual's capacity to complete ordinary everyday exercises. † (CHIP Recruitment and Selection) As the HOC is an open segment odd, we as a HER area of expertise or even on a more extensive scale, the association in general has an obligation of care to be as consistent with all types of law and enactment. In the event that we are discovered that we are not consistent we would need to reply to the Unions just as the Government itself. It would likewise leave us open for complaints and courts that can pulverize an associations notoriety as a business. The HOC are individuals from the ‘Two Ticks' Positive about Disabled People Scheme, this is the place a crippled individual is ensured a meetin g in the event that they meet the base models for the Job. Its principle point it to stop the enlisting chiefs/bosses utilizing inability as a burden to potential up-and-comers. In our procedure we fuse into the short-posting stage so the enlisting supervisors know about which candidates have with a note at the base to prompting or should I say helping them to remember best practice. If they do meet the minim models and accordingly welcome to talk with, we at that point inquire as to whether there are any sensible changes we have to make to oblige them at the meeting stage so nobody is impeded in any capacity. For instance, we advertisement a competitor who was dyslexic, met the basic standards and welcomed for meet. As it was a serious prominent Job, they we required to go to an evaluation day. So as to make it a reasonable appraisal we made sensible changes in accordance with give the applicant additional time when perusing and finishing certain tasks.I do imagine that HOC as a bus iness sticks to the plan and absolutely pays attention to it very. Despite the fact that, I would go above and beyond and recommend that we (HER) keep the duplicate of the featured shape and send the selecting administrator a short-posting structure without the crippled precedes featured (assuming any). That path there will be no chance the enlisting administrator can by implication separate or think they have an obligation to short-list the debilitated up-and-comers regardless of whether the rules has not been met.Age Discrimination The Age Discrimination Act is there to secure individuals everything being equal. When publicizing as a business we need to consider age segregation, we ensure we dodge words, for example, youthful and dynamic' as this may show that we are searching for somebody of a specific age. Indeed, even the situation of an advert should be Justified, if gracious spot an advert in a distribution or site that solitary a particular age bunch see that might be viewed as roundabout discrimination. Therefore, when composing Job adverts for the HOC we center around the aptitudes ascribes expected to satisfy the Job. We utilize a similar procedure through to the determination procedure, at no time to we ask the competitor their age or D. O. B or direct any inquiry or reference to the subject. This is to guarantee that all applicants are dealt with decently as could reasonably be expected and to give each up-and-comer equivalent open door for being chosen. Pregnancy and Maternity This ensures ladies during pregnancy and all through her Maternity and to any legal Maternity leave she is entitled to.An manager isn't permitted to oppress you if pregnant or on maternity leave, instances of this kind of separation are; * For requesting to get some much needed rest to go to bet natal classes * in light of the fact that you can't carry out your Responsibility during your pregnancy for wellbeing and security reasons * on the grounds that you requested to take maternity leave or you are on maternity leave. * By not giving you what you are qualified for while pregnant or on maternity leave If n worker feels they have been dealt with unreasonably in view of being pregnant or on maternity leave they could raise a complaint or present a case too tribunal. In the couple of long periods of being in the HER calling, this is a subject that yields up more frequently than others and can be a serious sensitive issue to manage in certain cases. The HOC has experienced various changes over the most recent 5 years, and we as HER experts need to react to any progressions with inside and outer elements that influence us, yet in particular enactment. With the end goal for us to meet the desires for he enactment we guarantee the accompanying; * Perform a Health and Safety chance appraisal when we are informed concerning the pregnancy * KIT days (Keep in Touch Days †10 of which you are qualified for when on maternity leave). Prompt and tell the and 32 weeks half compensation with SMS * Flexi-time * Job assurance during a rebuild while pregnant or on maternity leave * Informs a representative of any preparation and advancement openings accessible * Full 33 occasion qualification just as any bank occasions added to the maternity leave To add to the circumstance there has been another improvements with The Children's and suggests Bill. The role of people and politics in I, Claudius and King Henry IV part 1 - Literature Essay Samples

Individuals in power play a dangerous game as their agenda and leadership skills can subsequently result in the demise of a governing system, hence demanding the engagement with the political process. Shakespeare’s historical play king Henry IV part 1 endorses the Tudor view of the War of Roses as it represents the complexities of individual motivations and actions. This political text unearths characteristics of a leader that are disadvantageous; foreshadowing rebellion. In Robert Grave’s novel I, Claudius the corruption of Ancient Rome is evident through the exploration of manipulative women in a male dominant society, as well as the nepotism that secures power. Qualities of leadership are highlighted in Shakespeare’s King Henry IV through the embodiment of characters that can reflect the dangers of indifference. Prince Hal’s language acquisition crystalizes his ability to govern as ‘he can tinker with any man in his own language’ hence associating with commoners in the tavern world, as well as royals in the political sphere. Hal’s language, speech and rhetoric is aligned with authority and control, despite Hal spending a lot of time with the larrikin Falstaff (subversive leader of the commoners). He also shifts to a role of responsibility when the audience is introduced to his interactions with his father in the court. Shakespeare’s representation of Hal as a delinquent in the tavern world accentuates the common values that are still relevant today. In order to play a role in justice and be a successful leader, especially in a time or political and moral turmoil, you must e able to interact with all the people you’re governing. Shakespeare uses a juxtaposition by linking contrasting scenes to each other, which also enhances our view of Prince Hal as he switches from engaging the audience through metatheater with Falstaff and then to his apologetic and sacrificial manner when in the court with the King. Through Prince Hal engaging in the political process he represents characteristics of a successful leader. In contrast to Shakespeare’s representation of Prince Hal, Graves’ expression of people and politics through I, Claudius in Ancient Rome uses the character Livia as an example of the epitome of expedience. Graves writes in a persistent narrative tone with emphatic prose through the eyes of Claudius, a minor character with an emotional attachment to the drama. Having a woman given so much indirect power in a time of the marginalization of women, is a powerful statement. Livia, Claudius’ grandmother, seizes power through her husband Augustus and rules vicariously through him. This subtle female power that permeated the government changes the power balance in ancient Rome. However, the cleverness and manipulation exercised through Livia has a demonized undertone. Graves implemented irony through Livia’s character as there is moral hypocrisy in her judgement of other characters being punished for ‘crimes’ when she commits murder herself. Their is dramatic emphasizes on Livia’s character as an evil, machiavellian puppet-master and serial murderess. The exaggeration of female characters either being passive or extremely conniving illuminates the vilification of women in power that is still present today. The quote ‘I have done many impious things no great ruler can do otherwise’ accentuates the empirical view on politics in the perspective of women. Despite the belligerent and antagonistic depiction of Livia, she is a character that engaged with the political process and defied odds by succeeding in power. Hotspur is a character whose leadership is undoubtedly the reason for his demise. His hot- headed temperament leads him to band with the rebels in spite of the King. The religious allusion Shakespeare has implemented for the usurped throne that King Henry IV sits on, can be considered sinful and is mirrored in Hotspur’s political motivation to overthrow the King. His wife’s testimony about his actions awake and asleep are vastly different to his actions leading men to battle. Despite his glorious militant reputation, the role of honor is the root of his downfall. Falstaff says that ‘honour has no means if you’re dead’ whereas Hotspur challenged this by chase for militant honor in a time of civil unrest. Quick to act on his grievances, Hotspur’s politics ambitions accentuate the moral allegory that is represented through his character. Shakespeare has created Hotspur so that the audience are aware that his actions are not morally right but in h is head they are because he sees the rebellion as justice. He has a skewed idea on politics that veers him into the direction of justice on the basis of personal interpretation, hence highlighting the dangers of indifference. Claudius’ representation of himself is patronized, with an insight to a scheming, privileged world of debauchery. He states ‘there are two different ways of writing history: one is to persuade men to virtue and the other is to compel men to truth’, which highlights his perspective on the politics of ancient Rome. The character Augustus, Claudius’ grandfather in-law is presented in a positive light, as successful and popular among the citizens. However the nepotism that is dominant in this period spears to be a succession of leaders in one family and can be traced back to Livia’s political tactics. Augustus emphasizes the semblance and illegitimacy of characteristics that comprise a ‘good’ leader. The manipulation of the throne on Livia’s behalf gives the impression to the audience that Augustus isn’t capable of independence and has a lack of authority, hence the irony of the power that a leader is supposed to possess is pre sent. Augustus demonstrates the facade of leadership and the perpetuation of corruption in politics when expedience is present. The representation of rulers in the Claudius family creates a sense that they are lacking the divine anointment and qualities of a ruler, especially when the engagement with the political process is through a third party, such as Livia ruling through Augustus. Shakespeare’s King Henry IV part 1 explores the qualities of leadership that are significant in the engagement with the political process to pursue peace through a time of civil unrest. Whilst Shakespeare accentuates the characteristics of a worthy leader and an incompetent one, Graves’ I, Claudius establishes the lack of quality in some rulers that have established a long reign. I, Claudius also includes the exaggerated, negative portrayal of women in politics. Both texts represent the interactions of people and politics, with the reflection of values that are still relevant in modern society.

We have this accounting software called Peachtree Accounting to generate our financial reports monthly. The only problem is linking such reports with other department especially with the Corporate Planning department and Internal Audit Department as these two departments are usually collaborating with our department for reporting and evaluation purposes. The data from Billing Section, or the Consumer Services Department now, for its monthly sales and collection is not integrated with our department which makes records irreconcilable with our records. They have their own software application called magic for the generation of sales and collection data and others such as collection of vat on sales, universal charges and other taxes. Marketing and Entrepreneurship for Funding - myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about theMarketing and Entrepreneurship for Funding and Ethics. Answer: A non-profit organization that implements the marketing concept. Nonprofit organizations are slowly adopting business-like techniques in their operations, and are becoming involved and more confronted with market pressures which are only typical to the profit-making entities. These include elements such as competition, funding, and ethics in marketing, as well as the need to earn money to fulfill their missions. The Red Cross organization is a globally known nonprofit organization (Bell et al. 2015). This organization deal in ensuring that the lives of individuals remain one particular concept utilized by most nonprofit entities is the need to understand the consumer. There is still a lot of orientation needed for the nonprofit sector. What is the exchange taking place? What is the profit they seek? Over the past decade, most nonprofits have been introducing marketing concepts into their activities. The Red Cross to be precise has realized that adequate marketing could help them achieve their mission and are, therefore, challenged be more complicated decisions. Marketing in this organization begins and ends with the consumer. The consumer satisfaction is the priority of the organization, where all policies are formulated to favor service delivery and its quality to the consumers. The form of profit this organization seeks has a lot to do with consumer satisfaction, personnel satisfaction and increased funding, which has been achieved over the decade (Hill et al. 2015). Do they apply the marketing concept? How can you tell? Instead of embracing marketing concepts which are relevant to the profit entities, and beginning the marketing process with the consumer, followed by the investigation of what the market needs, nonprofit organizations have embraced organization centered marketing. This mindset makes most entities to believe that their services are needed by the markets falsely. Red Cross completely applies the marketing concept, through service branding and the provision of quality, which has everything to do with the satisfaction of the consumer. Prioritizing the consumer is the ultimate goal and path to profitability. The Billabong website Target customers need to be constantly informed and reminded about the organization, its products, and benefits of being associated with the entity (Cohen Winn, 2017). There is a need to ensure that despite the physical distance between the organization stakeholders and consumers, websites which have been created, need to be at the forefront of trying to help in establishing a relationship between the two. In the case of Billabong, a lot of information has been provided in the Billabong site on the surfing, skiing and skating industry. It is very important for organizations to find a way to communicate to consumers about their commodities, despite the fact that this is to happen on virtual sites. Therefore, this information does not ultimately help Billabong as an organization, to build a relationship with the target consumers. Most consumers are bound to be left asking questions regarding the specifics of the products which are offered by Billabong. While most are aware that it belongs to a particular industry, the specific commodities will not have been marketed most effectively. Consumers, therefore, need to be given detailed information regarding specific products to fill the numerous communication gaps. Consumer doubts should be eliminated for billabong organization to remain competitive in the industry (Miles Coven, 2016). The ultimate aim, which is profit-making, should be realized in the most efficient manner, which is through professional marketing and product advertising. Communication in marketing is the most important to enhance overall organization success and overall growth. How worldwide demographic trends are affecting opportunities for international marketing and which industries are set to benefit from the aging baby boomers In marketing, demographics have proven to be of influence to the marketing industry. The demographics of the world can either have positive or negative effects on marketing (Morris et al. 2012). There is a need to identify the worldwide demographic trends for one to have a better understanding about the effects of the demographics on the global marketing sector. In the modern world, there are five major trends and each of them has an impact on the marketing sector. The first trend is the ration of children to older persons. Currently, the ratio of children to older persons stands at 3:1. However, it is expected to decline and in 2015, the older persons in the society are expected to be more than the young persons. Therefore, marketing is faced with a challenge of changing the marketing strategies as well as products. The reason behind it is because older people have different tastes and preferences compared to young people. The second trend is the emergence of illnesses which have not been there before. The world health organization states that invisible non-communicable diseases kill more than 60% of the population (Zimmerer et al. 2015). When there is prevalence of such diseases, marketing is affected in different ways. First, the marketing of health products is affected in a positive way because the health products meet the needs of the consumers. Second, more customers become more cautious about the products they buy. Therefore, the marketing teams are forced to ensure that the right strategies are implemented to win the hearts of the consumers. At the same time, the number of potential customers is affected negatively thus leaving a small number of the customers for the marketers to meet their needs. The third trend is the speed of aging. The population is aging at a higher rate. Therefore, the young market is affected and that in turn also affects the marketers because they are forced to go back to the drawing board to know the best way to market to the aging population. The fourth trend is dependency of the old age. Most of the old persons depend on others and that means that they do not have enough monetary power (Morris Paul, 2017). Therefore, marketing to them is of no significance. The last trend is reduced child dependency and increased working age. In the modern day, young people are starting to work at a very small age and that means that child dependency is decreasing. Therefore, the marketers are left with a challenge of knowing the specific demographics to target. The industries which are likely to benefit from baby boomers are the insurance industry and the healthcare industry. Most of the old persons are insured for retirement benefits and also healthcare (Knight, 2010). Therefore, the insurance companies are making profits through them. Older age comes with medical challenges. Therefore, the baby boomers must seek the attention of healthcare practitioners time after time. As a result, the healthcare industry stands to gain and earn more from the baby boomers. Bibliography Bhuian, S. N., Menguc, B., Bell, S. J. Sirena Essays - Sirena, , Term Papers, Research Papers

Sirena Sirena is about affirmation or stand and forgiving. While the conversion is about resisting and killing what is living inside. Both poem tackled identity crisis but they differ on how the character respond to the situation. Gloc 9s Sirena is an artist attack on societys perception on homosexuality. It speaks through the point of view of a homosexual and describes himself as a mermaid where I realized form that point he already claimed as a homo from the start of the poem/song. The song narrates the characters hard knock life. From the identity crisis phase exhibited during childhood years to the physical and emotional abuse he received from taunting his homosexuality in the latter years of his life. From the lyrics, it can already be said that the song denounces abuse and discriminations on homosexuals Yet he still claims and stand what he is. But more than anything else, the song/poem attempts to discuss how homosexuals are like any other people, and states that they also equally important to the society. The Conversion is like a ghost story where the image of a girl in the metal drum helpless to defend and save continues to haunt the man. The persona of the boy is innocent but not nave to understand his uncle and fathers intentions that reflects to the older males standards. To make it short, the boy intendedly hide what he really wants to be to satisfy his father and uncles definition of a grown man; decent and robust. The author begins the poem with a straightforward style, describing that there is also an offense executed. The boy is dragged to the metal drum where he was dunked repeatedly. The father shouts Girl or Boy asking only for the acceptable answer as if it is already determined. The boy speaks to himself on the brutal onslaught and the girl inside him rapidly shrinks and a new man is emerge from the metal drum, reborn as a full blooded male. Both poem/song has a scene where a drum filled of water and where the father repeatedly dunks his son asking what a gender. Thats how Filipino tackle on that certain issue. To differ the song/poem, Sirenas character proclaim and acclaim what he really wants to be during the drum scene and waiting to be accepted even if it is in the late phase of his father. The Conversions character cannot claim it as the water curls down on his nose every dunk on the metal drum and just fulfilled his father and uncles wants. The girl inside him slowly died. Both poem/song has homosexuality issues, but the thing that really made it different from each other is how the family respond. One is happily accepted by his family by claiming it from the start, the other one is still haunted from the girl of the past inside him.

ACT Essay Sample Scores - Dont Rely On the Old Standardized Test

ACT Essay Sample Scores - Don't Rely On the Old Standardized TestThe ACT Essay Sample Score is a rather old fashioned standard that has been used by ACT for many years. When the new ACT is released, these scores will still be required by most schools. While they can still be accepted, the newer ACT test will not be accepted as a standard in the same way as it is now.In the event you are applying to a college or university for which the ACT Essay has been used for years, it is highly unlikely that you will have a problem getting into school. This is because most schools now require this type of test, and so will most colleges and universities. They simply want to weed out students who do not meet their qualifications for admission. By adopting the old ACT Essay Sample score, schools are keeping themselves on top of the educational curve. For high school seniors who are entering the college age, it is not the most effective test to take. For them, the old ACT is more appropriate. There are no special standardized tests, just the normal exams that any high school student will be given during their regular school year. The old ACT is not as useful to them because they will not be required to pass the same type of tests as they will be when they enter college. The most common reason for a student to take the ACT is to raise their grade point average. There are also students who take the ACT because they have applied to many schools, and feel it is the only way to get into their desired college. So you can see why the ACT has become so popular. When the new ACT is released, these scores will remain as standard across the board, but they will no longer be required by all schools. Some of the school districts that have been using the ACT may continue to do so, but most other districts have already started looking for different test to use. For those students that still want to take the ACT, the best way to find out what scores they will need to take is to look at the onli ne ACT Essay Sample Scores.Once the new ACT is released, there will be no option for colleges and universities to use this standardized test as a standard for admission. However, the ACT Essay will still be accepted by most high schools. There are some high schools that do have the old standard, and these tests will be available to take during high school, but this should not be the case for all high schools. The new ACT is not perfect by any means, but it is a much more comprehensive test than the old ACT. It will cover the same material as the old ACT, but it is far more thorough, including a wide range of topics. Most high schools have at least one test that covers topics from global economics to foreign culture.Taking the ACT is an excellent way to raise your grades and your test scores. However, when the ACT becomes outdated, many students lose the ability to take the ACT in order to boost their chances of being accepted to a college or university. If you want to take the ACT, t hen make sure to take the online ACT Essay Sample Scores so that you can learn how to raise your scores.

Global Exchage In Domestic Service Essays

Global Exchage In Domestic Service Essays Global Exchage In Domestic Service Paper Global Exchage In Domestic Service Paper The various ways in which domestic service, home care and nursing are structured and performed are well accounted in Global Exchange by Grace Chang and Diverted Mothering by Sau-Ling C. Wong. These two articles give indeapth analysis of how migrant and immigrant workers are treated by not only their employers but in certain instances by their own government. I will try to give you an analysis of the two articles and sight examples from the articles that reflect how these workers are treated in the domestic, home care, and the nursing industry. First in Global Exchage we see that more and more people and mostly women from 3rd world countries are leaving their families to go and work abroad for menial wages in the hopes of a better life for children and families. The article deals with the Filipina women and how they have and are brought into the country and how they are treated. I was very surprised to read that the president of the Philippines himself stating that â€Å"migrant women the new heroes of the Philippine economy† . : The even more surprising thing is that the government itself has more women working outside the country than it does within the country. This is evident all over the health and home care industry, if you walk into any hospital you can see the amount of Filippina women wokig as nurses and in other health care professions. Also these women are working as nannies and home care givers to the families of middle-class and upper-class people. The wages that these women get are soo absurd that any person living in the country would never ever work for those wages and if they did, the law would do everything to protect that person. The migrants are afforded the same rights and therefore are paid low wages, the conditions that they live in are mediocre. But will the employers ever say that the wages should be raised or the conditions made better? We all know that if this was a Citizen treated in the same manner, things would be very different. In all countries Fillippina women are imported with the Philippine government benefiting from the money the women send back home. The government you can is gathering women and sending them out on contracts to other countries to work, but they fail to protect the women when it is necessary or provide any kind of care. It seems to me that once they are receiving money not only from the migrant workers, but the host country, they forget about the women and start to recruit now women. The case of Sarah Balabagan is the perfect example of the govt. forgetting about its citizen that it sent out to work for them. Sarah was raped by knifepoint by her employer, she stabbed her employer and then was jailed for murder. The first trial she was sentenced to 7 years in Jail. This case outraged women everywhere espically the migrant Filippina women who protested and blamed it’s own govt. for not doing anything to protect it’s citizen. The 2nd trial led to a sentence of death for Sarah and again brought about more and more protest. After protests the sentence was finally revised to a 100 lashes and to pay restatution to the murdered man’s family. From this article I can see that the Philippines govt. looks at its women as a cash cow to send out to other countries and reap the benefits from the money they send back as well the good relations it builds with the host country. The host country benefits from cheap labor and not having to provide any kind of health care or other benefits that it’s citizens get. In Diverted Mothering the people are different yet the work is the same. The role of the, caregiver is taken on by minorities males and females. The males and females featured in the article are Afro-American, and Chinese. The stories featured here are all that most of us have seen on the Big Screen and how can relate with. The old chauffeur, the con artist medium, the tow-truck driver. These people are substituting for the parent’s not being around for their children. Some of the people are there more for the employers children rather than their own. We seldom hear of theor families and of their lives outside work. The employers are too busy working and chasing the all mighty dollar that they forget that they have a famaliy. The caregivers are seen as protectors, sympthyizers, and helpers. They are expected to be there for the employers at all times. Even when a member of the family is forgotten, the caregivers never forget them and help them in everyway. We see an example of this in the movie â€Å"Driving Miss Daisy† here the chauffeur has been with the employer for 30 years, but she knows nothing about his life of his family. In the end we see that she tells him that she never knew that he had a daughter or a granddaughter. This shows us that the no matter how long you may work for someone you will never be a real part of the family. You are there for the employer to help them as needed. Even after all this the chauffeur goes to see his employer when her own son has put her in a rest home and then spoon feeds her. She is pretty much forgotten about by her real family. This also goes to show that the caregivers are not only there for monetary gain, but take a real interest in the lives of their rmployers. In Diverted Mothering the focus is on the male gender as being the caregiver rather than a female. Although caregivers are almost always seen as women, in this article we see that in almost every story the male character is acting like a mother and taking care of others however it is necessary. Take the example of Mack going to Simon to discuss his emotional problems and Simon takes time out of his job to help his new friend work through his feelings. If the situation was reversed, how many of us think that Mack would take time out of his job to help Simon? Simon being a tow-truck driver is shown as that his time is not as important as Mack’s is and Mack can call on him at anytime. In both Diverted Mothering and Global Exchange we see that minorities are shown to be there to help and take care of white employers and be at there beck and call. Although in Diverted Mothering the stories are set in different times, they all follow the same theme. This theme being of whites being in charge or needing help and the minorties providing the help and being employed by the whites. The structure in both articles seems to be that minorities and people from the 3rd world are here to take care of not only the houses of the 1st world countries but also their families and be there whenever needed. Does class, race, and gender play a part in determinig who will perform the above mentioned duties for peoples homes and taking care of their children? After reading these articles I can see how all three play a part in shaping a person. Class first of all can inhibit a person in more ways than anything. Being of lower class in some countries does nto even qualify you to attend school or work in some areas. So when there are limitataion on what you can do and without an education, you are setup to fail no matter how you try to reach a higher class. Also if you do not have an education, you are not able to get a job that will allow you to move up and have a better life, therefore you are in some ways going to have to follow in the steps of your parents, whatever those steps maybe. I believe this is what leads to a lot of crime in the world, if we had no classes to put people into, they would have all the opportunities available to them and be able to decide for themselves on what course thier lives should take. Race can hinder your growth not only financially but also lead to emotional conflicts and cause life threatening situations. Race can become a problem for a person even if he/she is qualified in every way to perform a job. I am sure we all have been or know someone who has experienced this in someway. Race can limit your advancement in almost every field and every aspect of your life. Race again in some countries can pre-determine what you will be when you grow up. It can keep you from opportunities that are wide open, but because of your race you may not be able to take advantage of them. Gender can shape you as well as Class and Race. Gender more than anything can hinder you and set a course for your life. It can do this because regardless or Class or Race depending on the gender you belong to, you are either high or low on the todem pole. If you look at women as far back as you want to, you can see how they were and are still limited today. Especially women in some countries are the first to be taken out of school and put to work as the son is seen more important even though the girl may be the smarter of the two. Women are looked at as the caregivers, the soft-hearted and the ones that comfort us and wipe our tears. In the same sense, they are not looked at as the bread-winners or the strong, protecters and supporters of families. All three (class, race, and gender) hinder people in one way or another, but if you are a female and a minority and of a lower class, the course of your life is very limited and what you want to do with your life and what you are able to do are two very different things. The ideal family. How does one define an ideal family and who can decide whether one family or another is better? From the articles I have read it is very hard to say if the conditions of domestic and home-care service disrupt the model of the ideal family. What I believe is that in some ways it can hurt and also in many ways help the family to have someone there to take care of the kids and take care of the house. But we much remember that the caregiver is not the mother or father. The parents cannot let the caregiver be the only one to be involved with the kids and they must take an active part in their clildren lives. The caregivers being in the family allows the parents to be able to spend more time with the clildren rather than woeking and then coming home and doing house work. It hurts when the parents leave the children in the care of the caregiver and assume that the child is well and happy. Of all the love that a child may get from a caregiver, it can never be the same love that he/she will get from the parent. Over all I think that if you can afford to have domestic and home-care services to help you, you should take advantage of it. But you should also remember that with this help, you time should be spent with the family and not forgetting that the caregiver is there to help your  burden and not there to do everything that you are suppose to do. These articles make anyone that reads them take a look at the roles we all have in this world a little differently, I know it made me think about the people that clean the offices and the maids people have and how they may be treated. After reading these articles it can be seen what kind of plight the people in these stories go through for the betterment of their children and their families, and also what kind of hardship they put themselves through to achive their goals.

Owen uses his protagonist Rip Van Winkle to symbolize America. Rip experienced the same fight as the United States experienced before and after the revolution. The whole story of Washington Irving, Lip van Winkle is full of metaphors on the new American society and how it established identity before and after the American Revolution. Intermediate Microeconomics Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Intermediate Microeconomics - Assignment Example EX, Y = % change in quantity demanded of a product X/ % change in price of product Y. = {(400+450)/ (5+4)}* (4-5)/ (450-400) = (850/9)*(-1/50) = 94.44/-0.02 = -4.722. The negative coefficient depicts an increase in price of computer will result to 4.72 percentages in decrease in demand for printers. Income elasticity of demand assesses the "sensitivity of the demand for a good to a change in the income of the consumers" (Mankiw 97). Ed = (A1+A2)/ (Q1+Q2)*(change in Q/change in A) = (10,000+15,000)/ (20+18)* (18-20)/ (15,000-10,000) = (25,000/38)*(-2/5,000) = (657.89*0.0004) = -0.263. As the consumers income increases the demand of the commodity decrease even though the price remains the same. This implies the goods are of inferior quality thus when income increases consumers opt for better quality products (Mankiw 109). Regressing the logs of independent variables Px, Py and I results to a linear function of the amount needed and the independent variables (Mankiw 123). The percent change in quantity demanded is determined by the coefficient of the income I, price of the product X and price of the product

Homeland Security Measures Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Homeland Security Measures - Essay Example This has remarkably revolutionized the basic framework, but has created numerous security threats at the same time. Unfortunately, both the state and out of state cyber criminals are becoming more coordinated and strong, which has really put the United States government in a fix. (OUR NATIONAL INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE; AN IMMEDIATE STRATEGIC CONCERN IN NATIONAL SECURITY POLICY) According to the author of the article, the oil and gas companies seem to be the main targets for the hackers, because of their widespread businesses, which are even established in far fledge places, where contact can be made only via satellites. As a result, it becomes easier for the cyber criminals to extract private information, without the security companies knowing about it. Furthermore, the energy sector, which includes these oil and gas companies, would be affected the most if cyber-attacks were carried out at a significant scale, in the near future. Global projects, intercontinental partnerships and contractors, make the energy sector a vast industry spread over the world. Keeping in check who is accessing the data and extracting valuable information becomes a herculean task. The oil and gas companies are packed with important data, which if it gets in the wrong hands, can be have detrimental effects. Not only is there financial information to be protected, but also confidential customer information and various facts and figures. The author is accurate in his argument that the energy sector is the most vulnerable of all the other sectors and thus, a key target for cyber criminals. In today’s world, there is an ongoing energy crisis. Oil and gas companies are the main industries that contribute to the energy production in the world. The energy sector takes care of the economy, national defense and the well-being of the people. If the energy sector is attacked, then the world will be facing serious problems. U.S. owns twenty percent of the natural resources and a large num ber of oil reserves, which is not only necessary to maintain its own economy but to stabilize the economy of the world as well. Therefore, U.S. oil and gas companies are spread in almost every area of the world, and an attack on these is considerably easier than on any other company. Furthermore, cyber-criminals can gain power and dominance by getting their hands on valuable information related to these companies, as it basically controls the world’s economy. (Information Security in the Oil and Gas Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Sectors). SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is used to control automated industrial operations on wide scale. These industrial operations include the energy sector as well. SCADA system if implemented properly can be very helpful to the companies. There will be no need for visits and monthly inspections by an official. It can make changes to the system, solve errors and reduces operational costs (Why SCADA?). How ever, it has become vital for the companies to keep the SCADA and other industrial control systems in check. This is because what these operating systems contain is private and valuable information, which at no cost can be leaked to any criminal organization. The interlinked information of U.S. national infrastructure has made it easy for criminals to extract information and cyber security has come under serious threat. In addition, there have been concerns that

Creative Story: The Ride :: essays research papers

Creative Story: The Ride It was a beautiful day and definitely not forewarning of the events that would change my life. The warm Las Vegas sun was shining brightly in the blue and cloudless sky. A light breeze cooled the warm air just enough to stop the body from sweating. The breeze was clean and crisp that blew along with the scent of a spring day. The only noise was the roar of the engine as I twisted the throttle and accelerated through the twisted roads near my home. As everything raced by me, I felt a rush of adrenaline, then the fateful turn approached. I had taken the turn a hundred times before but today it would change my life. Around the turn would be my motorcycle accident that would cause me to take life much more seriously. Before the accident my lifestyle was very fast paced. I spent almost all of my time with my friends going out to parties every night. My life was in control without any abusive habits, it was just fast paced and fun times with friends. Never being at home added to an already stressful family environment. My high school education suffered from too much fun and too little studying. My father made being at home a very uneasy feeling, making me want to stay away even more. He never took any time to help me with school, car or money. I always had to work to earn everything, the only thing I wasn't paying for was rent. In turn I wanted little to do with my father, stepmother or brother, never contributing or helping out. I even stopped going with them on vacations. The feelings I had were that I just wanted to be alone by myself, independent. For four months after the accident I was unable to do anything that I had previously done in the normal routine of my life. With a full leg and hand cast I spent almost all my time during the four months recovering on the couch in the living room. I finished my junior year of high school at my bedroom desk. During this period I developed a lot of patience from the slow healing process of my bones. I also spent a great deal of time thinking, assessing, and contemplating my life and my future. Some of my thoughts were "What was I doing with my life?", "Where was I headed?", "What was in my future for myself?", "What did I want to do with my life?", "How my family life was affecting me?

Leadership in “Norma Rae” Essay

â€Å"Norma Rae† is a film based on a true story set in a Southern mill-town. The title character and fellow mill workers start a branch of the Textile Workers Union of America through the use of leadership. The two characters of Norma Rae and Reuben Warshofsky combine their talents to empower and lead the people of the mill from downtrodden workers to proactive union members. When Rueben first comes upon the town, he finds the managers of the mill oppressive to their workers. People have no rights. They make small wages. They work long hours. Rueben starts the revolution for the mill workers by inspiring Norma Rae through Superleadership. Norma Rae in turn empowers and motivates the mill workers to attain their common goal: a union. Superleadership occurs when a leader leads others to lead themselves. Superleadership is appropriate for Reuben Warshofsky because it applies well to organizational leaders. Reuben is a representative of the Textile Workers Union of America. He came to Norma Rae’s town to start a union at her mill. For his job to succeed, Reuben needs to be able to start the call for union, and leave the area confident that the cause is in good hands. Superleadership is designed to facilitate the leader within every individual. A leader who exercises Superleadership is not necessarily a â€Å"charismatic† leader. He may have a set vision and great oratory skills, but he does not lead to be followed or obeyed. He leads so that others can lead themselves and better themselves in the process. Superleadership maximizes the human resources of an organization. In the case of â€Å"Norma Rae,† it maximized Norma’s ability to have a voice. In Superleadership, the power is shared. While Reuben started the union movement, he shared a mutual responsibility with Norma Rae once she was up to speed. Followers lead because they want to. They have a stake in what they do. They believe their actions are for a greater cause. A Superleader develops self-leadership through compensation and constructive reprimand. He fosters an environment where people can be free to explore their abilities and gain confidence in what they find. This environment is essential to Superleadership. Only in an open environment can this type of leadership employ the potency and knowledge of the followers. It is the duty of the Superleader to help  develop a group’s skills once power is divided among the followers. Self-leadership can be learned through Superleadership. People are not â€Å"born† to lead. They need not be educated to be motivated or to learn. A Superleader provides a self-leader with direction. He orientates the person with the situation and helps explore the talents and skills necessary to get the job done. Reuben Warshofsky practices Superleadership on Norma Rae. He is a labor organizer looking for aid in a town that is ignorant of unions. The first person he meets is Norma Rae. She is a thirty-one year-old working-class mother of three. She is poorly educated and going nowhere fast. Her two children were by two different men. Only at the beginning of the movie does she brake off her relationship with a married man. Men oppress her in her life. Her bosses at work oppress her. They care not for her mother when she goes deaf. They reject every attempt Norma Rae makes to improve working conditions. She is a woman battered by life, but above it all she reveals an acute understanding of the world. â€Å"You lie with dogs, you get fleas.† She tells this to Reuben on their second meeting shortly after the married man slapped her. Reuben sees this glimmer of life in her and offers her hope when he says, â€Å"I think you’re to smart for what’s happening to you.† Reuben eventually leads Norma to self-leadership. Reuben tells Norma Rae the way things could be at the mill and she is inspired. He explains that the textile industry is the only industry not unionized. Reuben says to people at the first church meeting that things will not change, â€Å"not unless you make it happen.† Reuben encourages the people to join him and share in the goal to unionize the mill. Norma Rae is the only one who accepts the challenge at first. Reuben gives Norma a voice. He teaches her how to fight for a union. She starts by signing a union card. She then wears a union button and hands out others. The woman before was pushed around and uneducated. Now she is typing documents, making copies, and cold-calling her fellow workers; all for the sake of the union. Reuben’s Superleadership extends to things outside of the union. She begins to read Dylan Thomas. She allows blacks and whites to visit her home together. Norma makes her own  decisions. Her priest insults her when he will not allow a bi-racial meeting and without delay, leaves the church. When her new husband is upset with her time-consuming work, she yells back at him, and he respects her for it. Norma Rae no longer allows people to push her around. Her bosses at work continually try to make her quit: they make attempts at character assassination; they work her father literally to death; through it all Norma Rae perseveres. The management posted a sign on the bulletin board to enrage anti-union sentiment. They try to stop her from copying it and she responds, â€Å"I started it, I’m going to finish it!† Norma Rae shows her self-leadership by facing the managers of the mill. She serves a higher purpose that they cannot defeat. She evolved as a person through Reuben’s guidance. When times were tense, he was there to compliment her or to sit her down and chew her out. She was arrested soon after she copied the bulletin board and she was in tears. Reuben explained to her that she had just a taste of what was to come. He prepared her for the battle, and gave her the skills to fight it herself. The path proves to be an uphill battle, yet Norma Rae is able to encourage and motivate her followers at the mill. She bears pressure from management, resentment from mill workers and suspicion from her husband, but she stays true to her goal. She motivated people using situational approaches. She changed certain aspects of the situation in order to fit the needs of the followers. Her means of motivation were great and diverse, but it fit best under the title of the operant approach. The operant approach modifies rewards and punishments based on observable behavior. If someone’s direction, intensity, or persistence needs to be changed, a reward or punishment is delivered. In the case of Norma Rae, if someone aids the union, they can imagine a brighter future. If someone denies unionization of the mill, they will continue to work long hours for subsistence pay. Norma Rae has her own system of rewards and punishments. She knows the workers at her mill. She speaks to them as a fr iend, a friend who knows about them personally. Her reward can be a compliment or a question about a loved one. Through Reuben she developed the ability to influence people by means of flattery. She compels people to volunteer their time for the union movement so that their children can live a better life than they do. Norma knows what  makes people tick and she uses this knowledge to motivate the people to her cause. When her father dies at the mill, he becomes a modern-day martyr to rally around in hopes of a brighter future. The mill workers follow Norma Rae not because she is a saint; they know of her quick temper and sexual history. They follow her because she is passionate about her cause. The more confident Norma becomes in her role, the more she embodies her cause. She does not pretend to be anyone but herself, but she holds the union to higher standards. She is able to command the allegiance of her peers and yet remain equal to them. Her passion is what compels them to follow. In the end she gives them their greatest reward: they become a union. She sacrificed her job–and almost her marriage–to bring her goal to fruition. The union debate came down to a vote, 427 to 373 in favor of a union. This close ballot likely gained the extra needed votes due to Norma’s most memorable moment of self-leadership and motivation. In the climax of the movie, Norma Rae scrawls â€Å"union† onto a board and climbs upon a table. The sign is held above her head for three long minutes. She stands on the table willing to sacrifice everything she has for the sake of the union. She stands on the table holding up a word that is a promise for a better life. On the table, scared but determined, she inspires her co-workers. One by one they turn off their machines. A floor that one moment was a whir of noises and movement is reduced to a deafening silence. Norma demonstrates the power an individual can have to motivate people when they believe so fully in their cause. â€Å"Norma Rae† is a wonderful example of Superleadership and the motivation techniques of a leader. The journey of the mill starts with Reuben Warshofsky and his affect on Norma Rae. She in turn gains self-leadership and is able to use it to motivate her peers to unionize. It is leadership from the bottom up. It is an example of the fortitude of individuals when they are able to channel their power and organize change. It is an example of the change that can be made when backed by the strength of many able followers.

The Aphasia Mash Up Project - 1271 Words

This aphasia mash-up project is intended to remediate lexical retrieval at the discourse level in a variety of communication settings and communication partners relevant to the patient’s interests. People with Aphasia often have difficulty with word retrieval which limits discourse capacity. This in turn negatively effects communication interactions with others and increases isolation. Therefore, therapy is often centered around improving word retrieval that will facilitate communication with others. Unfortunately, trained skills in therapy have demonstrated varying levels of generalization. There are several treatment approaches that have demonstrated efficacy for individuals with aphasia such as Semantic Feature Analysis. A limitation with this method is that it focuses on nouns and has not shown limited generalization to generalize to discourse and hashave not shown significant evidence for maintenance (Kiran Bassetto 2008). Another approach used in therapy is the use of v erbs. Verbs are central to syntax, semantics and event memory. Therefore, VNeST is effective because it targets semantic networks based around verbs, which also targets things such as nouns, syntax, and thematic roles. Verbs are expected to activate more neural networks in comparison to targeting nouns alone. Furthermore, previous studies have used VNeST and shown to be beneficial to patients with moderate fluent and non-fluent aphasia (Edmonds et al. 2009). The first article used investigated the
